The Declaration of Independence, an appeal to God...

Often not remembered is the fact that those founders who signed the Declaration of Independence made their appeal for freedom from a tyrannical England to our Creator. I know, I know, you want to say we are not a Christian Nation. And I am just fine with not getting in that argument. I do not believe we are a Christian Nation either. We have been governed by people of many faiths. We have regularly made horrible decisions as a country that have shown that our appeal was not to God. But the reality is, our independence, our uniqueness and our foundations are built on the reality that it is God and God alone who gives men these freedoms.

Yes, men took up arms, but they could have lost. Yes, men started a new government, but it could have failed. Yes, we have hard working men and women who have built a unified nation that comes together even when it seems that God is not at hand. Our arrogance grows from ignorance and our founders knew this. We should always appeal to our Creator for every freedom, every blessing, and every privilege.

Raise that flag today! Remember those who died broke and ran for their lives, those that signed the Declaration. Remember those who have fought in wars that kept our world a safer place. Remember those who fought for rights of everyday Americans here at home. Remember those blue-collar folks who work hard to ensure that this giant machine runs every day. Most of all, remember that it is God who entitles us, frees us and allows us to live in such an amazing nation!

“Nature's God entitle them”

“Endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

“Appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world.”

In His Great Love,

Jeff
